Thankfully, the frustration of the game's sky-high challenge is kept at bay by the simple fact that it's an enormous amount of fun. The unlockables are slow, too we found it took an average of five failed runs before you'd unlock the next item, which would then be unceremoniously shuffled into the spell pool with little chance of spawning and even less chance of being useful if it ever turned up. Some will relish this game's difficulty we just found ourselves thinking that the optional battles with secret super-boss Bass in the Battle Network series were never as difficult as even the second boss of One Step From Eden. It was cruel death after cruel death, our identical-looking spells being dodged by fast-moving enemies, the killing blow administered by the vicious bosses after a snide one-liner, adding insult to injury. Most roguelikes of this nature will occasionally tip the scales in your favour with a particularly "broken" load-out and fortunate enemy drops, but that never happened during our time with One Step From Eden. The game gets insanely tricky as soon as the second boss battle, your grid being absolutely flooded with fast-moving, ludicrously demanding attacks that you can scarcely be expected to dodge reliably given just how much is going on. But One Step From Eden, crucially, doesn't feel rewarding. Roguelikes are supposed to be hard, we know. The sheer number of spells is daunting when so many of them are similar-looking, and the more you obtain the less likely you are to "draw" the spell you need for the next tough enemy. Yes, there are over 200 of the things, and unfortunately, this feeds into the major problem we had with this game – it's just too hard. These spells take on many different forms – there are ice and fire projectiles, lightning from above, slashing swords, laser beams and many, many more. Instead of the battlechips of Mega Man Battle Network, you'll be using spells, which cycle through your "deck", a rack of abilities which can be added to by conquering enemies in combat. It's another roguelike, yes, but unlike any we've played before. Dying kicks you back to the start, with your only prize being a gradually filling completion bar that grants you unlockables when you hit milestones – bonuses such as more powerful spells for future runs and (eventually) new characters and load-outs.Ĭaptured on Nintendo Switch (Handheld/Undocked) Every battle is randomly generated, and victory moves you along a map with the occasional branching path allowing to decide where to go next. Their own spells will (usually) be flagged on your grid before they land, giving you some warning to move out of the way of their increasingly complex and speedy attack patterns. The real-time combat sees your player character (initially Saffron, with many more to unlock) moving around a 4x4 grid one square at a time, with your enemies holding a similar grid directly opposite you. There's no gallivanting around the UnderNet here all semblance of exploration has been stripped out, offering a pure combat experience that's both refreshingly focused and staggeringly demanding. It essentially lifts the ingenious battle system from the GBA cult classic wholesale, makes a series of tweaks and additions, then sets you to work. One Step From Eden makes absolutely no secret of its cribbing from Capcom's late, occasionally great Mega Man Battle Network series.

This is your "corrected LMP" (last menstrual period). Just subtract 14 from your date of ovulation. Since every IVF patient knows the date they ovulated (= the day of egg collection), it's easy to calculate your menstrual age. This is because we can use this landmark for all situations (including IUI pregnancies for Day 3 embryo transfers and Day 5 embryo transfers and frozen cycles as well !) The key reproductive event you need to focus on is ovulation! It makes much more sense to talk about the pregnancy in terms of DPO (days post ovulation), rather than the menstrual age or the day of the embryo transfer. So how do you convert the date of your embryo transfer to menstrual age? This is surprisingly simple. This means that even though you are actually being more scientifically accurate, you will have to follow the norms which clinicians use. The trouble is that if you calculate your gestational age from the date of the embryo transfer or the date of fertilization, your obstetrician will get confused, because he is used to calculating the age of the pregnancy in menstrual weeks – not the embryonic age. When you do IVF, you do not need to use the date of your last menstrual period to calculate your due date – you have far more information, which is much more biologically reliable. However, since the vast majority of women know their menstrual cycle well, it’s easy and convenient to use menstrual age for dating the pregnancy in clinical practice, in order to simplify matters. The reason for this is that most women don’t know on which date they ovulated or on which day they had sex, which led them to get pregnant. This means on 1 Feb, while the embryo’s age is only 4 weeks, the doctor will say she is 4 weeks pregnant! This is a clinical norm we use, which refers to the menstrual age, and not the actual age of the fetus. However, the baby was probably conceived around January 14. Therefore, if a woman with a 28-day cycle had her last period on January 1, her due date is 8 October. Now we know that a woman cannot get pregnant before she ovulates – and ovulation, fertilization and conception occur about 14 days from the start of the menstrual cycle. This is an estimate, calculated from the first date of the last menstrual period. Your due date is usually calculated based on a 40 week average gestational age. Too much data can confuse the poor patient, because you just want to know when your bundle of joy will be with you. Doctors often make matter worse, especially when they do hCG tests and ultrasound scans. One would think that creating an IVF pregnancy calculator should be much easier, because we know the exact date on which the eggs were retrieved and the embryos were transferred! However, it can be more confusing, because of the difference between menstrual age and embryonic age. The principle is quite simple – they just need to key in their LMP (first day of their last menstrual period) and the calculator will tell them their due date (by adding 40 weeks do the LMP, a rule of thumb called Naegle’s rule). There are lots of pregnancy calculators online, which allow women to calculate their due date. The moment you find out you are pregnant, the next question is – when is my baby due? This is true, whether you get pregnant in your bedroom, or after doing IVF! It should serve to remind us that television doesn’t always have to be serious. But if you can suspend your mind and avoid dwelling on the preposterous concept and the obvious plot conventions, this show has wide appeal. “Drop Dead Diva” obviously falls in the entertaining category and not the brilliant one. Brooke Elliott shines in every episode with a convincing yet playful performance. Jane becomes a woman who redeems Deb’s “zero” by taking on cases that are ethical rather than lucrative, and even sues a clothing company on her own behalf when she learns they don’t make clothes in her size. When Deb’s parents come to the firm to get a divorce, Jane tries to represent her mother, but finds it too difficult. The show manages to take an outlandish trading-spaces concept and instill it with a real sense of heart. There has also been an all-star cast of cameos ranging from Paula Abdul, Rosie O’Donnell, Liza Minelli and Nia Vardalos to Tim Gunn and Delta Burke. Grayson (Jackson Hurst) is Deb’s fiancé who also works at Jane’s firm, and while the two grow close, Jane cannot reveal her true identity to the man she still loves. Kim (Kate Levering) is a nasty associate of Jane’s, who has always looked down on Jane for her looks but is actually jealous of her professional success. Their friendship picks up where it left off, aside from the fact that Deb is no longer a model but rather a successful lawyer. Stacy (April Bowlby) is Deb’s best friend and the only person aside from Jane’s guardian angel who knows the truth about Jane. The incomparable Margaret Cho plays Terri, Jane’s super-supportive assistant and friend, who encourages her, provides her with her favorite snacks, and reminds Jane of facts from her life when she doesn’t seem to know who her own mother is, essentially because this is still Deb. Deb’s vast knowledge of fashion and her sense of ingenuity serve the new Jane well, as she is able to recall facts about the fashion industry and pop culture that help win her cases.Īside from Jane/Deb, there is a plethora of entertaining characters. Jane comes to resemble a version of Reese Witherspoon in “Legally Blonde” with her signature strut, the “booty bounce” that amounts to “shoulders back, show the rack.” Jane also gains Deb’s confidence, which is refreshing considering it’s rare to find a strong, confident overweight woman in today’s television landscape. When Deb (Brooke D’Orsay) the model wakes up in Jane (Brooke Elliott) the attorney’s body, she first utters, “You sent me to hell?” Though Deb retains her effervescent personality, she also inherits Jane’s intellect and knowledge of legal terms. While many have heard the phrase “A thin woman trapped in a fat woman’s body,” “Drop Dead Diva” puts it into context. Though Lifetime renewed it for a second season, this under-rated show has not received the praise it deserves. The show premiered in July, and its season finale aired last week. Yes, the premise is far-fetched, but the execution of this absurd scenario works both poignantly and wittily in Lifetime’s “Drop Dead Diva.” Impulsively, she pushes a button hoping to bring her back to her body on earth, but instead is transported into the body of an overweight attorney. Then in heaven, she learns she’s a “zero,” having done no good deeds and no bad deeds. A shallow blonde aspiring model dies in a car crash with a truck full of grapefruits. Harana is a traditional courtship practice where men introduce themselves and woo their admired lady by serenading underneath her window at night. In this wooing form, parents of both the suitor and the pursued lady are present in the event where love riddles are delivered for two major purposes: to showcase certain expressions of love and to assess the sentiments of the parents of both parties. This form of courtship has been practiced ever since before the Spanish rule arrived in the country. Traditional Dating Practices in the Philippines Before Philippine dating had reached its present configuration, there are a couple of traditional courtship practices that were genuinely observed by many Filipinos in the past. Since age immemorial, wooing has always been there it comes in various ways and forms, and it actually links a particular set of dating etiquette and taboos. Although there are tremendous shifts in terms of the wooing practices among Filipinos, still, it cannot be denied that they still give a huge amount of love and affection toward the persons they cherish, whether that romantic pursuit is done conventionally or contemporarily.Įvolution of courtship and dating practices in the Philippines has been greatly shaped through history and time. From pre-colonial era up until present, the Filipino culture has remained true to its legacy in spite of the many innovation and societal changes it has gone through. Like any other countries around the globe, the Philippines has established its own set of unique, exemplary, and symbolic dating traditions and customs, making it more appealing to locals and foreigners alike. Filipino courtship has undergone a tremendous shift -from traditional serenading to online dating.Īs love seems to be every person’s favorite language, dating and courtship can never be thrown out of the window when discussions about culture commence. You can go down the list and use the first binary that works. Typically, these versions are sorted from the least compatible (but fastest) to the most compatible (but slowest). Some engines are provided in multiple versions to accommodate for different hardware. If you prefer a setting that yields the same results across different machines, go for a depth limit. Anything between one second and a couple of minutes will give you decent results, the tradeoff being between speed and accuracy. If a strong coach is what you are after, set up Stockfish with a fixed time and no depth limit. The depth-time relationship is actually exponential, so even one second should be enough to get very good results, perhaps around depth 10 or so. On a medium-performance laptop, it takes about 20 seconds to get to depth 22 from the initial position. But for a fixed time, the depth may vary given the speed of the machine and the complexity of the chess position. The time in milliseconds actually also determines the depth. As soon as one of the set limits is reached, the engine stops and returns the best move it has been able to compute until that point. Therefore, there are options to limit the engine by time, by depth, or both. For most positions, this would take an extreme amount of time. By default, an UCI engine is on a mission to compute the perfect move. The NNUE evaluation benefits from the vector intrinsics. As early as 1931, anticipating a global war, the Communist Party had mandated universal military training for boys and girls beginning in elementary school. In a desperate fight for survival, even Stalin was willing to modify traditional patriarchal attitudes about the role of women. In the first months of World War II, the Red Army suffered massive losses of manpower and equipment. After Operation Barbarossa, the Nazi invasion on June 22, 1941, many young women seeking enlistment to fight the Germans were turned away, told to work in the factories, or enrolled for nursing training to serve as field medics. In Soviet practice, this meant the right to work as hard as men, with the additional burdens of housekeeping and child care. The 1917 Russian Revolution gave Russian women legal equality. So warrior women who don’t fit conventional gender roles have been marginalized, delegitimized, or, like Joan of Arc, sanctified after martyrdom. Until very recently, men have written all the military history. But sometimes, they appear on the battlefield as combatants. In truth, women have always participated in war: Often as victims, as cheerleaders or as trophies. One of those “insignificant exceptions” that Keegan dismisses so readily was a little scrape that Russians call the Great Patriotic War ( Velikaya Otchestvennaya Voina). “Warfare is…the one human activity from which women, with the most insignificant exceptions, have always and everywhere stood apart…” If you want to grow your biceps and increase your upper arm strength, you might assume that you just need to do lots of curls. It is located in the front (or anterior) portion of the upper arm, along with two other muscles known as the Biceps brachii and the coracobrachialis. The brachialis runs underneath the biceps.
